'One on the same sea' modifies its letter to include La Graciosa - La Provincia

It is one of the essential Christmas carols in the Canary Islands. Since the musician Benito Cabrera composed One on the same sea in 1995, the song, which covers all the islands of the archipelago in a song of union on the occasion of Christmas, has become a reference whose lyrics, especially its refrain, know all the Canaries ... Until now.

The recent modification of the Statute of Autonomy, which includes the island of La Graciosa as the eighth island of the Archipelago, has sparked debate about the possible modification of some of the Canary Islands' symbols to adapt them to their new reality, and one of the first It has been one of his most popular carols. In this way, the author of the theme has modified the letter in two points to include the gracioseros, according to Ser Canarias.

On the one hand, the new chorus will begin with a "Come, let's sing, we are eight", which will be repeated after each of the groups of stanzas that refer to each of the islands. There lies the second novelty introduced, with the composition of a new stanza dedicated to La Graciosa, which includes references to the Chinijo Archipelago (of which the new island is part, together with Alegranza, Montaña Clara, Roque del Este and Roque del West), the creeks, the jable, the rocks and the wind as recognizable gracious elements.

The new song will premiere on December 20, coinciding with the III Christmas Concert for schoolchildren organized by the Canarian Association for the Diffusion of Music (Acadim) and the Youth Philharmonic Orchestra of Tenerife.
