A sailor has died and three others have been rescued in a shipwreck that occurred this morning in the port of Malpica de Bergantiños (A Coruña) after the boat "O Silvosa" overturned about 4.45 am due to the strong currents that cause the floodgates of the dock when the tide is low.
"They were going to leave the dock to fish and in the floodgates a lot of current is generated when the tide goes down; he played a trick on them, he threw the boat and it seems that he turned it around, "sources of Civil Protection have told Efe.
The ship has already been refloated and moved to the area of the dry dock of the Port of Malpica de Bergantiños.
Everything points to the fact that the deceased, the skipper of the boat, got caught in the ship's rigging and could not leave, while the other three sailors were able to leave the ship in time.
The mortal victim has been transferred to the University Hospital Complex of A Coruña (CHUAC), where the autopsy will be performed.
It is the second event that hits the Costa da Morte in less than 24 hours, after yesterday the ship "Sin Querer 2" suffered a shipwreck in which three of its crew members died; Six others were rescued and the search for a missing sailor continues.
