One year, one month, and 22 days. This is what Joaquín Beltrán has buried in the Zaldibar landfill, where he worked and where died while carrying out his day with another colleague, Alberto Sololuze. They are two of the 708 labor victims of 2020 in Spain, who in most cases remain anonymous. A balance of two deaths a day as a result of going to work, “unaffordable figures”, CCOO and UGT denounce again this April 28, on the subject of the International Day for Health and Safety at Work. Workers’ organizations ask to address the increase in workplace deaths in recent years without excuses, not even those that tend to justify them due to increased activity. Last year, that of ERTEs, the increase in teleworking and the large drop in activity, deaths increased by 2% compared to 2019.
