North Korea says it tested a large caliber rocket launcher

North Korean propaganda said Wednesday that the weapon he tested on the eve was a large-caliber multi-rocket launcher like the one used by the regime last August.

However, the official KCNA news agency statement, which described the rocket launcher as "super large" and noted that the North Korean leader, Kim Jong-un was present at the test, did not qualify the success test, which has led to the analysts to speculate with the possibility that the armament did not work correctly.

The images published by KCNA show the leader supervising the launch, which was also present by his sister and right arm, Kim Yo-Jong, and what appears to be a system with four 600 mm launch tubes mounted on an erecting mobile platform (TEL).

In turn, the photos reveal that North Korea was able to test three projectiles, although the South Korean and US military authorities only detected the launch of two.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff said on Tuesday that Pionyang fired "two unidentified short-range projectiles" into the Japanese Sea (called the East Sea in the two Koreas) from the town of Kaechon (75 kilometers north of Pyongyang) ).

The shells, according to Seoul, traveled about 330 kilometers and reached a peak of between 50 and 60 kilometers.

In this way, and given that KCNA has not highlighted the "success" of the test as it has done on other occasions, it is believed that the launch of a third projectile that failed.

This is the tenth North Korean arms test so far this year, after Kim Jong-un's regime was 17 months without a single test of this type while embarking on the first diplomatic rounds with the United States.

Tuesday's test came hours after Deputy Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui said that North Korea looks forward to agreeing on a date to sit down and talk to representatives of the White House at the end of September.

It would be, therefore, a gesture possibly destined to add pressure to accelerate the beginning of these conversations.

In any case, it is believed that Choe's words indicate that Pionyang is willing to return to the table after a summer marked by his belligerent condemnation of joint exercises.
