A new lighting with some 100,000 LED lights was unveiled today in the Basilica of San Pedro on the occasion of the mass of the Galló celebrated by Pope Francis.
The installation that has required two years and has been carried out by the German company Osram will entail a saving of 90 percent of the energy, according to a statement from the Vatican
The official inauguration will be in December of next year, but today it was used for the first time to illuminate the basilica during the Mass of the Rooster, in which Catholics celebrate the birth of Jesus.
The new lighting in St. Peter's Basilica will be up to ten times brighter than before and the indirect lighting of the vaulted ceilings with very warm white light will enhance the golden tones of the ceiling.
The German company also took care of the new lighting of the Sistine Chapel.
