More than 81,600 people participate in the popular consultation on the monarchy with a resounding republican majority

A total of 81,617 people have participated in the state popular consultation on monarchy or republic that has been held this Saturday, May 14. In Spain, there are a total of 37 million voters, according to the electoral census,

The Monarchy or Republic Popular Consultation Platform has deployed 724 voting points in different parts of Spain and 15 foreign cities to carry out the consultation, as reported in a statement.

In total, 81,617 people have voted, with 76,106 votes in favor of the republic (93.25%), 4,731 in favor of the monarchy (5.81%) and 780 invalid or blank votes (0.94%).

The consultation, which is not binding, has been carried out with the help of 4,000 volunteers and with "absolute normality", according to the organization, which has highlighted that there have been no "conflicts or relevant incidents", although "few" with " anti-democratic forces that tried without success to prevent the referendum”.

In this sense, they have pointed to the Provincial Subdelegation of the Government in Alicante and the municipal governments of Martorell, Hospitalet de Llobregat and Salou, in Catalonia. In addition, they have denounced that in the municipality of Los Alcázares (Murcia) "the action of a fascist group prevented voting at a polling station."

Among the parties that have supported the consultation are Podemos and Izquierda Unida, whose main leaders, Ione Belarra and Alberto GarzĂłn, respectively, are part of the Government.

Other parties, such as Anticapitalistas, and different social organizations and republican movements also support the initiative.
