More than 230 transplants, 25 of them in children, during the state of alarm
Spain has carried out 234 organ transplants from 127 donors from March 13 to May 19, of which 25 have been to children and 30 of the patients were in zero emergency - those in a very serious clinical situation for whom the Transplant could not be delayed - in the last nine weeks.
The data has been advanced this Thursday by the Minister of Health, Salvador Illa, in his weekly appearance in the Health Commission of Congress, in which he has also announced that the National Transplant Organization (ONT) and the autonomous communities are working on a plan specific post-covid.
The objective, he explained, is to recover transplant activity prior to the coronavirus crisis in the best safety conditions for patients and professionals.
Illa has pointed out that in the most critical moments of the health crisis, priority has been given to patients in a zero emergency and also to those who are difficult to transplant due to their immunological or other conditions in case a suitable donor appears.
The minister has pointed out that although the number of transplants has decreased during the health crisis compared to the activity in the normal period, each one carried out has been carried out in conditions of "extraordinary complexity" and has recognized the work of professionals who They have made this possible and the generosity of donors.
