More than 220 Efe workers support a feminist manifesto | Society

More than 220 workers of the Efe Agency have promoted on Wednesday a manifesto in defense of feminism in which they have reinforced their commitment to inform with a gender vision, raise awareness about the inequalities suffered by women and work for equality.

Two days before the celebration of International Women's Day, the professionals, who have supported the 8M feminist mobilizations, have also participated in the first women's assembly held since the creation of the news agency in 1939.

At the meeting, the imminent implementation of the Equality Plan of the Efe Agency was debated and various measures have been proposed to channel the participation of women workers in decision-making.

"Feminism is the fight for equality and the workers of Efe show our commitment to reflect the unjust reality from a journalistic exercise with gender vision that shows the discrimination that women still suffer ", indicate the professionals in the manifesto made public this Wednesday.

In this sense, they have demanded that Efe, as a public medium, work to "raise awareness of the seriousness of sexual and sexist violence against society, guaranteeing journalism that does not judge or focus on the behavior of victims and that is committed to treat this scourge as a structural problem. "

They have committed to show the achievements of women, to give visibility to the experts, to tell the reality without biases and to avoid and denounce the reification of women and stereotypes.

The informants have demanded training, greater options to reconcile as well as a more rational use of the schedules and have requested the informative sources that do not organize press conferences or events with informative relevance in the afternoon.

"In the 21st century, workers in a public communication media have a duty to promote feminism and equality, because it is the struggle for dignity and human rights of half the population," the manifesto concludes.
