The Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero, said today that the Government will promote "all the political initiatives" within its reach to achieve flexibility for the deficit target for next year, as allowed by Brussels but prevent PP and Citizens.
During the session of control to the Government in the Congress of the Deputies, Montero has reiterated that the objective is to obtain an additional margin of 6,000 million Euros for social policies because "the citizens deserve that they can be reversed part of the cuts" of the crisis.
The government agreed with Brussels to relax the deficit target for next year to 1.8% of GDP, above the goal of 1.3% of current GDP.
To be applicable, the Stability Law establishes that the new objective needs the approval of both the Congress of Deputies and the Senate, where the PP has an absolute majority, which implies that it has the capacity to veto.
For this reason, several parties promoted the modification of the Stability Law so that in case of rejection in the Senate, the deficit target returns to Congress, as happens with the rest of the laws, and they requested the urgent procedure, which was rejected by the Congress table, controlled by PP and Citizens.
"The institutional position of PP and Citizens in this House is preventing citizens from reaching 6,000 million euros," criticized Montero, who has assured that the Government will "again and again this initiative to try to avoid the institutional blockade."
