The Ecuadorian Minister of the Interior, María Paula Romo, today informed of the detention of several people, military and civilians among them, in the framework of an investigation into the alleged trafficking of arms, ammunition and explosives, and organized crime.
In an appearance before the press, he explained that the operation carried out this morning involved seven raids on military premises in four of the 24 provinces of the country.
To avoid interfering with the development of the case, the head of the Interior declined to give details of the operation because it was still underway, he said.
"At this moment we have several detainees, among which there are soldiers in active service and there are also civilians," he said, adding that the investigation has been carried out with all the legal authorizations.
Romo insisted that the operation is still ongoing, so it presumes that more arrests will occur and offered specific data when the case reaches the arraignment hearing.
