Mbappé’s gallop slows down the Bavarian roller

PSG beat Bayern 2-3 in the first round of the rematch of the final of the last Champions League with two goals from Kyllian Mbappé and one from Marquinhos, and also thanks to several good saves from Keylor Navas. The ball belonged to Bayern for most of the match and he fired 31 times on goal. PSG arrived little, but when they did they did not fail and ended up taking the victory.

PSG took an early lead, in minute 3, through Mbappé in a play in which Bayern went wrong with everything that could go wrong. After a loss of the ball in the center of the field, Neymar had all the space in the world to advance towards the area and open the ball to Mbappé, who was in a shot position against Manuel Neuer. Mbappé’s shot to the first post was not unstoppable. Neuer arrived, but deflected the ball towards his goal.

Later, Bayern exercised absolute dominance against a PSG dedicated to defending itself and waiting for opportunities to counter-attack. Before Mbappé’s goal, Bayern had had two clear arrivals, a shot from Lucas Hernández diverted to a corner by Keylor Navas and a header from Choupo-Moting that hit the crossbar.

Bayern were in control of the game, but PSG showed great efficiency and in their second shot on goal – except for the previously disallowed goal against Draxler – they increased the score. After a rebound from a corner kick, when the Bayern defense left the area to cause the offside, Neymar put in a pass that left Marquinhos alone against Neuer and the Brazilian did not miss.

Bayern’s pressure continued and had its prize, with a header against the floor by Choupo Moting in the 38th minute to a center from Pavard from the right. Already in the second half, Keylor saved PSG twice, first against a shot from Alaba in the 53rd minute and a few seconds later after a shot from Pavard.

The two-goal tie came in the 60th minute with a Thomas Müller header after a free-kick by Joshua Kimmich, but in the 68th Mbappé scored the winning goal for PSG on a counterattack. Everything will be decided in Paris.
