Mauritania closes airspace and suspends school years at all levels

The Mauritanian government today banned all commercial flights to and from its territory starting on Tuesday, a measure that adds to the announced suspension of school courses at all levels yesterday for a week.

To date, only one positive case of coronavirus has been detected in the country, in the person of a traveler from Europe whose nationality is unknown.

The ministerial committee created to follow the evolution of the epidemic in the country, chaired by Prime Minister Ismael Bedda Cheihk Sidiya, announced today the closure of the airspace, as well as the isolation of all the people who had contact with that only infected person.

Likewise, all non-essential meetings are prohibited and anyone who spreads false rumors about the virus in Mauritania will be prosecuted.

Regarding the closure of schools, both public and private, the possible extension of the measure will be re-evaluated after one week.
