María Mérida, the voice of Canarian folklore, dies



The singer María Mérida (Valverde, 1936 - Puerto de la Cruz, 2022), the lady of Canarian folklore who placed the island's repertoire on the world map throughout the 20th century, has passed away at 96 years of age. Throughout his life, Mérida has spread the music of the Canary Islands in more than 300 stages on the five continents and has put his voice to promote the island repertoire around the world, as well as to sing to the Canarian emigrants of the past decades who attended his recitals.
