The new Minister of Culture and Sports, José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes, yesterday stopped María José Rienda as president of the Higher Sports Council. The ex-skier arrived in office in June 2018 and was dismissed after attending the European handball final in which Spain won the gold by winning over Croatia. Rienda replaced José Ramón Lete and his main mission was the reform of the Sports Law, which is stagnant due to the lack of government in recent months. The names that have sounded to replace her in office are those of Pepu Hernández and Gonzalo Miró, although the favorite, according to “El Partidazo” of Cope, is Irene Lozano.
Lozano has been Secretary of State of Global Spain since October 2018. The arrival of a new Secretary of State for Sport will take place just over six months before the start of the Tokyo Games where Spain aims to exceed 17 metals which were achieved in 2016 in Rio.
