Mahou San Miguel closed 2018 with record sales and an increase in profit. The leading brewer in Spain invoiced last year 1,298 million euros, 2.9% more than the previous year, and increased its benefit before taxes by 1.1%, up to 170 million euros, as reported today. The brewery also increased its investment by 31.5% to 119.8 million euros. The company allocated these funds mainly to update and improve its production centers, both inside and outside of Spain, as well as projects aimed at improving efficiency, productivity, sustainability and competitiveness of the company.
Innovation and commitment to its premium products were, according to Mahou San Miguel, the engines of its growth last year. To these levers he allocated 25.4 million euros. Last year, 4.8% of its net sales came from innovation, compared to 3.8% in 2017. The company's aspiration is that, together with its premium products, it will end up representing 10% next year . Last year, the company launched three new references to the market and four new product ranges.
Alberto Rodríguez-Toquero, CEO of Mahou San Miguel, said that 2018 has been "a great year in which we have grown and demonstrated our ability to anticipate the needs of the market, leading and driving the category through innovation, the premiumization and the generation of new experiences ".
