Madrid reorganizes pediatric emergencies to avoid infections

The Community of Madrid has reorganized urgent pediatric care to avoid possible coronavirus infections to patients and parents or guardians.
The pediatric referral hospitals are La Paz and El Niño Jesús, which centralize the current needs for intensive care, hospitalization and pediatric emergencies, the regional administration has specified in a statement.
Pediatric transfers made by SUMMA 112 will be destined to these hospitals, according to the clinical needs of the patients, their proximity and disposition.
The Ministry of Health of the Community of Madrid has reorganized urgent pediatric care, intensive care and hospitalization, centralizing current needs at the La Paz University and Infantil Universitario Niño Jesús Hospitals.
If you require urgent pediatric care, you should go to one of these two reference centers depending on the hospital to which you belong.
La Paz University Hospital (Area 1) will be the reference center for Ramón y Cajal, Móstoles, Severo Ochoa, Hospital de Alcorcón Foundation, Infanta Sofía, del Tajo, Puerta de Hierro Majadahonda, El Escorial and Clínico San Carlos .
The Niño Jesús University Children's Hospital (Area 2) will be the reference center for October 12, that of Getafe, Príncipe de Asturias, Fuenlabrada, del Henares, Infanta Leonor, Sureste, Infanta Cristina, Gregorio Marañón and Gómez Ulla .
The corresponding referral center will be indicated in the pediatric emergencies of each hospital, although it is appropriate to go directly to the La Paz or Niño Jesús Hospital, the one that corresponds to it according to the previous table, to speed up health care and avoid exposure to to the virus in the healthcare environment.
SUMMA 112 will carry out pediatric transfers to the La Paz University Hospital and the Niño Jesús University Children's Hospital, according to the clinical needs of the patients, their proximity and disposition.
However, if the pathology of the pediatric patient requires it, or is conditioned by the hospital's portfolio of services, the patient will continue his current clinical treatment in the center where he is located.
In centers that currently have a pediatric emergency service, a pediatrician is kept on call to respond only to urgent, non-derivable needs, providing assistance until the needs of care make their transfer possible.
For this reason, unless it is strictly necessary, you must go to the pediatric emergencies of your referral center, La Paz or Niño Jesús to avoid unnecessary exposure to the virus and subsequent transfers.
In the event that the healthcare demand so requires, health professionals may be displaced to the two reference hospitals, La Paz and Niño Jesús.
