Madrid closes the morgue of the Majadahonda Ice Palace



The Community of Madrid has closed this Tuesday the morgue installed in the Majadahonda Ice Palace, the third enclosure of these characteristics enabled in the region to welcome those killed by the coronavirus since the beginning of this health crisis.

Given the drop in the number of deaths in the Community of Madrid, the Madrid government has decided to close this site, as explained by the regional president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso.

This infrastructure in the Madrid town of Majadahonda, 1,800 square meters in area, was the third to be set up in the Community of Madrid to accommodate those killed by the coronavirus after the Madrid Ice Palace and the building located in the future City of Justice.

Between the three enabled facilities, they have received in total and until this Tuesday 1,785 deceased: Ice Palace of Madrid (1,145); Majadahonda Ice Palace (162); and building of the Institute of Legal Medicine of the City of Justice (478).

The Madrid president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, has thanked the Majadahonda City Council, the UME and Firefighters of the Community of Madrid and all the members of the region for their work in moving the bodies of the deceased to the funeral homes "with great affection and respect" .

Ayuso has traveled to the Ice Palace of the municipality of Majariego to thank his mayor, José Luis Álvarez Ustarroz, the Ministry of Defense, and the staff of the Madrid 112 Security and Emergency Agency, who have participated in logistics, for their support and effort. , organization and collection of the deceased.

It has also highlighted the collective effort of society and institutions in the fight against COVID-19, an element that was essential in just 24 hours to condition the Majadahonda building and make it available to the entire regional healthcare network.
