TEN LAPS TO GO!!! The race was broken by the crash we saw a couple of laps ago, although Sergio García, Izan Guevara and Jaume Masia continue to appear in the leading group.
They confirm from the Leopard Racing team that what has happened to Dennis Foggia has been that the chain has come off, something quite unusual. Bad luck for the transalpine pilot.
And now to the ground Taiyo Furusato !!! It was being a very clean race, but now the incidents are piling up.
This incident will be investigated by the Race Direction because Ryusei Yamanaka seems to have knocked out the two Spaniards.
MULTIPLE DROP!!! David Salvador, Ryusei Yamanaka and Daniel Holgado have been implicated.
Tatsuki Suzuki is currently leading the race and the team tells the Japanese to pull because they have just run out of Dennis Foggia's trump card for victory.
Dennis Foggia records his second DNF of the season, the second in a row and has failed to score points in three of the last four races.
DENNIS FOGGIA QUITS !!! What bad luck the Italian driver is having because he is forced to leave when he was fighting for the top positions. He looks like he has had engine trouble.
It is being a white glove race. Not a single crash, nor incident between pilots. It is very hot, yes, and that could have its incidence as kilometers are traveled.
Jaume Masiá is already 8th!!! The Algemesi rider continues to get closer to the head of the race. He is riding with a lot of pace and it seems that he will have options to fight for the top positions in this ninth round of the season.
Izan Guevara now takes first place and is followed in the wake by Sergio García. Therefore, the two GasGas lead the race and the moment seems somewhat delicate for the rest.
Tatsuki Suzuki, who came very strong from behind, manages to take the lead and takes over from Dennis Foggia, his teammate at Leopard Racing.
Jaume Masiá begins to climb positions. He has set the fastest lap and is already in 12th place, but with options to continue improving as the race progresses.
Tatsuki Suzuki is approaching the head of the race and has managed to overtake Sergio García at this time, who falls to fourth place provisionally.
From behind, Jaume Masiá has to recover positions. The rider from Algemesí is already in the points zone and is currently 15th.
Dennis Foggia is setting a very strong pace, although he is not managing to open a gap either and has the two GasGas very close, those of Sergio García and Izan Guevara.
Deniz Öncü has lost several places in these early stages and Izan Guevara takes advantage of the circumstance to position himself in Foggia's wake.
Today Izan Guevara starts from pole. It is the third of the season and it is also the third in her career. He is accompanied on the front row precisely by Dennis Foggia and Jaume Masiá, while Sergio García starts from 9th position.
Without going any further, last Sunday neither Jaume Masiá nor Dennis Foggia, two of the contenders for the title, were able to score points. In the case of the Spaniard there are already three races with a 'zero' this season, while there are two for the Italian.
We are already focusing on everything that may happen in a few moments in the Moto3 test. As we mentioned, Sergio García won his third victory of the season last Sunday at the Italian Grand Prix. The GasGas rider has also achieved two additional podium finishes and is asserting his greater regularity.
We review the schedule for today's races, the usual on European soil. The action begins at 11:00 a.m. (peninsular time) with the Moto3 race. The Moto2 race starts at 12:20 p.m., while the main course of the day, the MotoGP race, starts at 2:00 p.m.
In the smallest of the three categories, Sergio García achieved his third victory of the season at Mugello last Sunday and extended his lead at the top of the drivers' ranking. The Burriana rider has 137 points, 28 more than Izan Guevara and 70 more than Jaume Masiá and Dennis Foggia.
This in regards to MotoGP. In Moto2, Celestino Vietti leads the standings, although the Italian has been running out of steam in recent races and finds himself with the same points as Ai Ogura (108). For his part, Arón Canet occupies the third position with 89 points.
Francesco Bagnaia has won in the last three races held in Spain (Grand Prix of Aragon and Valencia in 2021 and the Spanish Grand Prix in 2022). The last rider to rack up four wins in a row in Spain was Marc Márquez in 2019.
Fabio Quartararo has been on the podium in two of three previous appearances at the MotoGP Catalunya Grand Prix and in the one he failed to do so (2021), he was fourth. The one in 2019 (2nd) was the first of his 24 podiums in the queen class.
Accompanying Aleix Espargaró on the front row are Francesco Bagnaia and Fabio Quartararo, in fact, the three riders with the most options to win the crown in the top category this year are those who start in the most prominent positions on the starting grid.
However, Aleix Espargaró will have to reverse that kind of curse that accompanies him in this Grand Prix of Catalonia and that is that he has abandoned in six of his last seven participations here, completing only the race in 2020 (12th). In fact, in no other circuit has he abandoned more times (seven) than in Barcelona-Catalunya in his MotoGP career.
The Aprilia rider has linked four podiums in a row for the first time in his 13 seasons in MotoGP and has achieved five podiums in his last six races, more than in the previous 199 in the top category (two).
Aleix Espargaró starts today from pole position, the second of the season and the fourth in his MotoGP career. And two of those pole positions he has achieved at the Circuit de Catalunya-Barcelona (2015 and 2022).
Race by race, it is becoming more and more evident that Aleix Espargaró is this year in the trio of drivers who are candidates for the title. The rider from Granollers is in second place in the MotoGP standings, with 114 points, just eight behind the leader, Fabio Quartararo.
Marc Márquez has already started his recovery process after undergoing surgery again last Thursday to try to reverse the problems he has been dragging on since the humerus of his right arm was fractured in the summer of 2020. He causes loss in this race and will also do so in the coming months, with no date yet set for his return to the circuits.
