TheCanary Islandsreceived until May a total of5.67 million international tourists,which represents a decrease of 2.1 percent over the same period of 2018, according to the provisional data of the Survey ofTourist Movements in Frontera(Frontur) developed by theNational Institute of Statistics (INE).
Theexpense of tourists, however, amounted to 7,115 million eurosaccumulated in the first five months of 2019, which represents an increase of 2.5 percent compared to the equivalent stretch of 2018, according to theTourism Expenditure Survey(Egatur) also published this Tuesday by Statistics.
With those figures, in addition,Canarias is the autonomous community that accumulates the largest amount of tourists spending in Spain, with 23.2 percent of the total, compared to 22.3 percent in the Balearic Islands or 14 percent in Andalusia.
Spain as a whole received29.3 million international touristsin the first five months of the year, 2.7 percent more than in the same period of 2018.
Until May, the spending ofInternational tourists on their trips to Spain reached 30,684 million euros, with an increase of 3.8% compared to the same period of 2018.
In May, 8 million international tourists visited Spain, 1.6% less than in the same month last year, which made an expenditure of 8,195 million euros, 0.5% more.
Theaverage expenditure per touristin the fifth month of the year it was1.030euros, with an annual rebound of 2.2%, while the average daily expenditure grew by 9.5%, to 163 euros.
From January to May, the United Kingdom, with 6.2 million tourists, remained the first issuing market until May, unchanged from the same period in 2018. Germany followed with 4 million tourists and an increase of 1, 9%, and France, with 3.7 million visitors, 4.6% less.
CataloniaIt is the first main destination of foreign tourists arrived in Spain, with more 6.7 million visitors, 2.6% more than in the first five months of 2018. The following are Canarias, with 5.67 million (-2 , 1%), and Andalusia, with4.4 million tourists (+ 6.2%).
