Latam will resume part of its international operations between June and July

The Latam airline, one of the main airlines in Latin America, reported on Wednesday that between June and July it will resume some of its international operations, which have been suspended by 95% since the beginning of last April due to the coronavirus health crisis and the restrictive measures in the affected countries.

The airline said in a statement that in June it expects to go from 5% to 9% of its total previous capacity before the pandemic arrives, and in July to reach 18%.

The news comes just five days after the group reported the severance of 1,400 of its workers from affiliates in Chile, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru as a result of the impact of the economic consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In terms of destinations, the announcement made this day by the company, which was created after the merger between the Chilean Lan and the Brazilian Tam in 2012, translates into the reopening of some routes to the United States and Europe.

On the one hand, Latam will fly from Sao Paulo (Brazil) to Frankfurt (Germany), London, Madrid and Miami (USA) and from Santiago also to the U.S. city and Sao Paulo, generating a link between Chile and Brazil to be able make flight exchange.

Latam planes will also return to the air in-house in Brazil and Chile, with 74 routes in the South American giant and 12 destinations in the Andean country.

“The group is increasing flights, destinations and frequencies and taking concrete measures that respond to the new economic reality that clients and their families will face, such as more accessible, more flexible passages, new sanitary measures and a passenger assistance service during the trip, “said Latam Vice President of Business Michael Rutter.

NEW SANITARY MEASURES

Regarding the new sanitary measures in travel, Latam explained that the use of masks will be mandatory during the boarding process at the airport, throughout the flight on the plane and on landing.

The measure will apply to both passengers, crew and ground personnel.

Also the interior sanitation of the aircraft will take on greater relevance, with complete disinfection of the interior of each aircraft at the end of the trips through spraying of quaternary ammonium. In addition, alcohol gel will be available on all aircraft.

Other precautionary and security measures for passengers will be the ease of booking and changing flights in case of cancellations or a staggered boarding to avoid crowds in access to the plane.

Regarding the price of tickets, Latam confirmed that they proposed to reduce costs and be more efficient, so that tickets can be up to 20% cheaper.

The company flew before the health emergency to 145 destinations in 26 countries and offered 1,400 daily flights, but currently it operates only a few domestic flights in Chile and Brazil and maintains six frequencies weekly between Santiago and Miami and three frequencies between Sao Paulo and Miami. .
