Lanzarote limits meetings to two people when entering alert level 4

Lanzarote will go from this midnight to the level 4 alert for covid, given the notable increase in infections that have been registered on the island of Conejera in the course of recent weeks. This implies, among other restrictive measures, the reduction of meetings between non-living partners to a maximum of two people and the cessation of all economic activities, except essential ones, at 6:00 p.m. This was announced yesterday by the spokesman for the regional Executive, Julio Pérez, in his appearance after the holding of the Governing Council meeting.

“Lanzarote has a very worrying outlook, above all, due to the speed at which infections are increasing. For this reason, from next Saturday at 00.00 hours it will go to alert level 4. This is a level that we had not contemplated until now and that will be published tomorrow –today for the reader– in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands ”, explained Pérez. The measures will be in force for two weeks and will be extrapolated to La Graciosa.

According to the latest epidemiological report prepared by the General Directorate of Public Health, in Lanzarote, which is currently at level 3, the accumulated incidence at seven days has become 25 times higher in just over three weeks. In fact, since last January 8, it has exceeded the threshold of what is considered "very high risk" in the transmission indicator. The decision to change the level therefore responds to the analysis of this document and to the different scientific criteria approved by the Interterritorial Council of the National Health System.

La Gomera registers five discharges and is free of SARS-CoV-2 infections

For its part, El Hierro, which has 19 active cases, rose from last night at 00:00 to alert level 2. “In El Hierro, the absolute numbers never have the same weight as in other islands because the population level, as it happens in many small municipalities, is relatively low. However, in percentage terms, it forces us to take action. For this reason, it will go to level 2 with the hope that it will recover its previous situation in 14 days ”, said the counselor.

Regarding the vaccination campaign against Covid-19, the spokesperson stressed that in the Islands it is progressing "at a very good pace." And it is that the community has already administered 95.8% of the vaccines received –45,482 out of 47,485–, which places it ahead of the rest of the regions of the national territory. As reported by the spokesperson, 98% of the people who make up the first group have already been vaccinated - users of residences and workers of these spaces -, which add up to a total of 16,800. In addition, more than 88% of the health workers who fight in the first line against the virus and who make up the second target group have been inoculated. This last group is made up of 28,867 troops.

“We believe that we will be able to reach a speed of 10,000 daily doses. We do not want to set a date to determine when we will achieve herd immunity because this will depend on the rate of vaccination, which is linked to the production and supply of the vaccines themselves. Probably, as we have more, we will be able to outline with more precision when this collective immunity will be achieved ”, he stressed.

According to the latest data released by the Ministry of Health, the Archipelago yesterday added 332 cases of Covid-19 among the population, 50.3% –167– in Gran Canaria. Also, during the day, the community reported three new deaths associated with the clinical complications caused by the pathogen. Two of the deaths occurred in Lanzarote and correspond to a 68-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman. The other death occurred in Tenerife and the victim is a 77-year-old man. Based on the information handled by the health administration itself, the three deceased were afflicted with previous pathologies.

By islands, Tenerife added 60 infections yesterday, so its accumulated cases amount to 14,947, of which 4,394 remain active. Gran Canaria, on the other hand, accumulates 12,856 and has 2,628 patients awaiting their evolution. Lanzarote added 77 and gathers 2,820 positive diagnoses in SARS-CoV-2 and 948 active, while Fuerteventura added 26 cases and its general count rises to 1,328, with 219 active. The situation on La Palma is very different, which only found one contagion since the last balance sheet and brings together 331 accumulated pictures and three in progress.

El Hierro, with 19 active squares, is now at an amber traffic light

It should be noted that La Gomera is, right now, the only island that is free of covid, since it did not register detections and the five patients who were affected by the pathogen were discharged. Finally, El Hierro did not add new infections to its statistics and maintains its accumulated at 123, and its assets at 19.

The Department of the Government of the Canary Islands clarified that in the calculation of new daily cases by islands there is one less than in the global one because one of the new clinical pictures has not yet been referenced.

So far, a total of 29,912 people have managed to win the battle against the virus in the Islands, which shows that in the last 24 hours, 294 registrations were issued in the Archipelago. In this sense, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is the municipality with the highest number of patients who have managed to overcome the condition (8,530). However, in the hospitals of the Canary Islands there are 375 patients fighting against the pathology. Of this number, 323 are found in floors and 52 in intensive care units. 53% of them –199– are located in Tenerife, which is the island that supports the greatest healthcare pressure.
