Junts will not support the extension of the state of alarm and will request again the total confinement

“Prolonging the state of alarm is necessary, we do not discuss that, but it must be done differently,” said the group’s spokesperson, Laura Borràs, who will insist on the demand that the Catalan president, Quim Torra, has been making, without Success, to the Chief Executive, Pedro Sánchez, of confining the population of that community, one of which, together with Madrid, accumulates the most cases of the infected.

The Catalan independence movement has stressed that the measures adopted by the Government of the PSOE and United We Can are “insufficient” and has specifically criticized the “ineffectiveness” of the management of the Ministry of Health in relation to the recentralization of the powers of the communities autonomous. “The Executive has recentralized health management when precisely in cases like these, proximity saves lives,” he defended.

Although its deputies will not travel to Madrid to attend the plenary session of the Congress and will vote electronically, the party led by Carles Puigdemont will register a series of proposals that they were still working on on Tuesday, sources from this formation confirmed to Europa Press. Junts shares a parliamentary group with Más País, Compromís and BNG, whose representatives will be in the Chamber and will be able to defend their contributions.

The parliamentary groups have until midday on Wednesday to present their proposals to try to define the scope of the state of alarm and all initiatives will be voted on at the end of the plenary session.

For its part, Esquerra Republicana (ERC) already advanced on Monday that it would abstain in the vote if the decree that the Council of Ministers approved this Tuesday did not contemplate the total confinement of Catalonia, as it has been.

Meanwhile, the third Catalan independent formation in Congress, the CUP, is still analyzing the request for an extension of the State Government of alarm, so they will wait until Wednesday to announce the meaning of the vote of its two deputies, according to sources from the anti-system party.
