He has died at 89 Juan Marrero Portuguese (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, 1929), former director of La Caja de Canarias and former president of the Club Nautico de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. He also participated in politics as a councilor in the municipalities of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Arrecife.
Marrero Portuguese was at the head of the then-named Caja Insular de Ahorros as the maximum responsible between 1959 and 1979. In 2017, he published a book on La Caja called The story of a miracle, And last August he asked the entity for a painting that he received as a personal gift from the artist Félix Juan Bordes and that, he reported, had not been returned to him.
Juan Marrero Portuguese studied Economics at the Complutense University of Madrid, and Chemical Industrial Expertise and Teaching in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
