The CEO of Repsol, Josu Jon Imaz, has been elected Best CEO of 2018 in Spain by Forbes magazine, ahead of the CEOs of Inditex, Pablo Isla, and Ferrovial, Iñigo Meirás.
Imaz succeeds in the award list to the president of ACS, Florentino Pérez, winner last year of an award in which have already been awarded in previous editions CEO of Telefónica, José María Álvarez Pallete, IAG; Willie Walsh, or Meirás himself.
The 'top five' of the best leaders in the country in 2018 is completed by the CEO of Ence, Ignacio de Colmenares, and Cellnex, Tobiás Martínez.
The sixth position was held by Florentino Pérez, followed by José Antonio Álvarez (Santander), Fernando Abril-Martorell (Indra), Andrés Arizkorreta (CAF) and José María Álvarez Pallete (Telefónica).
To figure in this ranking, the 50 'CEO's' have had to overcome several filters, such as being in charge of a listed company, which is present in the Spanish stock market indices and whose profitability is higher than the average for its shareholders.
In addition, the vote is carried out by a national and international jury composed of investment banks, asset managers, headhunters, consultants and business schools, the publication said.
In an interview with the magazine, Imaz emphasizes that "a manager must have perseverance, vision, clear objectives, flexibility and intellectual humility to adapt to the unexpected … and not be afraid to commit or acknowledge mistakes, because the one that does not make mistakes is, normally, the one that does not make decisions ».
On the other hand, the editor and director of Forbes, Andrés Rodríguez, values that Imaz "has been able to bet on the energy transformation through the implementation of new technologies, consolidating Repsol as one of the leading companies in our country".
The award will be received by the CEO of the oil company on February 14 at the hands of Repsol's president, Antonio Brufau, at a gala to be held in Madrid.
