The lawyer, politician and sports leader Josep Lluís Vilaseca, vice president of the Organizing Committee of the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games, first General Secretary of Sport of the Generalitat and former director of FC Barcelona, has passed away at age 90, has confirmed this Saturday the Spanish Olympic Committee (COE).
“Today is a sad day for the Spanish Olympism. Josep Lluis Vilaseca has passed away. An important person in the development of Barcelona ’92. We want to send our most sincere condolences to his family and friends. You leave us an indelible legacy, Josep Lluís. Rest in peace, “said the COE, in which he was president of the Spanish Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Always linked to the world of sports, he was manager of the FC Barcelona board during the presidency of Agustí Montal (1969-1977), to later develop the position of first General Secretary of the Sports of the Generalitat between 1980 and 1995.
During that time, his work as vice president of the Organizing Committee of the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games (1987-92) was fundamental, a work for which he was recognized with the Olympic Order of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) or the Creu de Sant Jordi. He also received the UEFA Order of Merit after presiding over its Legal and Disciplinary Commission, and was a CIU deputy in the Parliament of Catalonia.
FC Barcelona, in which he served as a manager, regretted his death. “We regret the death of Josep Lluís Vilaseca, key figure in Catalan sports and manager of FC Barcelona during the presidency of Agustí Montal. Rest in peace, “said the Catalan entity.
