At the age of 83, José María García Quer, a veteran socialist militant, who was a deputy and organic position, died this Tuesday.

A retired worker from Iberia, he was a member of the clandestine socialist organization of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria since June 1975.

Once democracy was restored, he belonged to the socialist group of the capital, in which he held management positions. He was a PSOE deputy for Las Palmas from 1986 to 1993. He left the Socialist Party for a while and was a member of Lorenzo Olarte's Centro Canaria, to later return to the PSOE.

Among those who expressed their condolences is the president of the Canary Islands and general secretary of the Canarian socialists, Ángel Víctor Torres, who wrote: «While in the Parliament of the Canary Islands, we received the unexpected death of García Quer. He was a deputy in Cortes for the PSOE and a current member of the Regional Committee. Always saying things clearly, whether they were shared or not. I always appreciated him and felt his support. My condolences to family and friends. D.E.P".

In addition, he was the leader of the CN Metropole, which this Tuesday published this comment on its networks: «This afternoon we learned the sad news of the death of José María García Quer, a member of our Metropole Swimming Club, vice president during the mandate of Pepe Feo and interim president after his resignation. All of us who make up CN Metropole convey our deepest condolences to family, relatives, friends and partners with whom he spent great moments ».
