The Niger River is born from the mountain of Guinea and crosses the Sahara desert. In addition, its channel is the cradle of historical African civilizations such as the Mali empire. The Grancanarian journalist José Naranjo took this natural phenomenon as a metaphor for Africa, where hope, life and illusion go through harsh and hostile situations, drawing a diverse continent full of contrasts. In his new book, 'The river that defies the desert', Naranjo portrays the landscapes and people who have crossed his path since in 2011 he decided to settle in Dakar, Senegal. The work is presented by the author and its editor, José Luis González (Azulia).
