Joel Rodríguez from Gran Canaria is the first leader of the ILCA 7 Spanish Cup, a competition held in the waters of Cádiz. The representative of RC Náutico de Gran Canaria, who will defend the colors of Spain in the Tokyo Games in this class, occupies the first position of the general classification after the celebration of the three inaugural tests.
The island sailor has two points of advantage over the Ibizan Carlos Roselló, another of the candidates for the title and the main opponent of the Canary Islands’ interests.
Joel Rodríguez missed the victory in the initial regatta, which began leading in the first section to the windward mark, later overtaken at the stern by Roselló, who would no longer leave his head until the finish line.
Then came the reaction of the Gran Canaria who won the second round, ahead of the Catalan Ricard Castellví, with a third from Roselló who dropped him from the leadership to stay second, one point behind the Canary Islands.
Equality was resolved in the third and last regatta of the day, which was won again by Joel Rodríguez followed by Roselló, which gave the islander one more point to lead with two.
The Catalan sailor Ricard Castellví closed the absolute podium after the opening day, leading this ILCA 7 Spanish Cup in the sub 21s with a single point of advantage over the Tenerife sailor Leopoldo Barreto. Both star in another of the interesting duels of the regatta for the winding in this category and also for the absolute podium, to which the Balearic Mario Plomer and Pere Ponseti, fifth and sixth, respectively, also present credentials.
