But it is not easy, if not impossible, to find such an iconoclastic figure as that of Javier Krahe. "I have always needed to surround myself with teachers and Krahe was the first", Sabina confessed during the presentation of Krahe's smile, the disc and the DVD that Sony publishes in homage to the archetypical singer-songwriter from Madrid, deceased in 2015
Sitting on the stage of the Galileo Galilei room, the same one that became one of the last refuges of Krahe in his city, Sabina has been accompanied by two friends of the missing singer-songwriter: El Gran Wyoming and Javier López de Guereña. The three have celebrated on Thursday the work of this urban and sarcastic poet, whose tongue was sharp as a knife, whose intelligence was equally disparaged to criticize the established and whose incorruptible was bombproof.
"It was not that he was vain, it was that he was the best and he knew it," said Sabina, excited to remember the guy who learned the most "the good and the bad" of the crazed life of the nocturnal and Bohemian Madrid. Krahe was the man with whom Sabina came to perform at the legendary bar in the Spanish capital of La Mandrágora, where both gave free rein to their creativity and their street excesses and that became the birthplace of singer-songwriters in the early 80s. " Without a doubt, the moment in which I felt most successful in my life was in that bar and also the happiest, "said Úbeda." Krahe was the spirit of La Mandrágora, "he added.
"The day he died we were devastated, crying to seas and laughing dead simultaneously, because whatever we remembered was a reason to smile. Javier left us a permanent smile, "López de Guereña recalled during the meeting with the media. "Sometimes I get a tear when I remind him," said Sabina, who added: "He has been the best friend I've ever had." Admirer of the poets of the Golden Age, of the Generation of '27, Ángel González and Gil de Biedma, Krahe was a kind of irreverent juggler, a musician who was recognized brasseniano -by Brassens- and at the same time had the dart in the word, as well as the greatest spokesmen of the social and political criticism of this country, becoming the first musician to be censored from democracy in 1986 for his song Naive Raven, that criticized Felipe González, then president of the Government. And in that awkward position, outlaw and against the tide, he won a place in the heart of a demanding public and a profession, that of the musician or singer-songwriter, who admired him.
Krahe's smile it reflects the special concert of 2016 that was celebrated the year of his death and adds three more themes, including a posthumous one, the only one left unpublished and finished by the artist, Pathetic couplets, which Sabina himself has recorded. This tribute will be extended until October with the publication of a biography entitled Javier Krahe.
