Los Angeles (USA), Jun 24 (EFE) .- The Latin Recording Academy will recognize the trajectory of Joaquín Sabina, Fito Páez, Martinho da Vila, Emmanuel, Sheila E. & Pete Escovedo, Milly Quezada and Gilberto Santa Rosa with the Latin Grammy Award for Musical Excellence.

The institution reported this Thursday in a statement that the winners will receive their awards in a private ceremony that will take place on November 17 in Las Vegas (USA), one day before the twenty-second edition is held in that city. of the Latin Grammy.

"It is a great honor to recognize this remarkable group of legendary, yet very active, artists with the Award for Musical Excellence," said the president and CEO of the Latin Academy, Gabriel Abaroa Jr.

The head of the Latin Grammy added that the "outstanding achievements" of the honorees "have created a legacy in the world of Latin music that transcends generations."

The Musical Excellence Award is given to "performers who have made creative contributions of outstanding artistic value to Latin music and its communities during their careers."

On this occasion, it will distinguish the Spanish Joaquín Sabina, the Argentine Fito Páez, the Brazilian Martinho da Vila, the Mexican Emmanuel, the Americans Sheila E. & Pete Escovedo, the Dominican Milly Quezada and the Puerto Rican Gilberto Santa Rosa.

In addition to these recognitions, the Latin Academy announced that Mexican producer and composer Guillermo "Memo" Acosta and Colombian accordionist Egidio Cuadrado will receive the Board of Directors Award.

This distinction is given to "people who have made significant contributions to Latin music during their careers, but not necessarily in the form of performances."

In addition to the Awards for Musical Excellence and the Board of Directors, the Latin Academy revealed earlier this month that the legendary salsa singer Rubén Blades will receive the 2021 Person of the Year award, the most important honorary distinction of the Latin Grammy.

The Panamanian artist will be the star of a special gala, independent of the Awards for Musical Excellence and the Board of Directors, to be held on November 17 in Las Vegas on the eve of the great Latin Grammy ceremony.
