Paulo Futre was the star of Atletico when Jesus Gil agreed to the presidency of the club. It has been 32 years since that summer of '87, when young Paulo received the full weight of Atletico on his back. It did not take long for Futre to become a legend and he hopes that Joao Felix does not take long to do so either.
"He has everything to succeed," says the former captain of the rojiblanco. "The talent, the character," he adds. "It has been very important for the Benfica title, to hold on to Wanda's pressure is not easy, but he is very prepared for the war," says Futre. He also knew what it was like to endure the pressure when he was so young. He was 21 years old when he was signed by Atlético, but he had won a European Cup with Oporto, in which he was the star along with Rabah Madjer, and had already played in the 86 World Cup with his national team. Joao Felix has had less travel at the moment, but hopes to do so with Atlético.
