Jk Rowling donates 17 million euros to investigate neuronal diseases

Scottish writer JK Rowling has donated 15.3 million pounds (17 million euros) to a center named after her mother in Edinburgh to support the investigation of neurological diseases such as multiple sclerosis, parkinson's and dementia.

The Anne Rowling Regenerative Neurology Clinic at the University of Edinburgh was built with a donation of 10 million pounds (11.1 million euros) that the author of Harry Potter contributed in 2010.

The goal of the sum allocated now is to create new facilities and support the conduct of more studies and clinical trials for patients with neurological diseases such as multiple sclerosis, of which the author's mother, Anne Rowling, died at age 45.

The University of Edinburgh already created a center for multiple sclerosis research in 2007, which also received financial support from Rowling.

The well-known author said that when the Anne Rowling clinic was founded, she would not have been able to predict "the incredible progress" that the center has made in the field of regenerative neurology, which has motivated her donation.

"It is a great pride for me that the clinic has combined these high ambitions with practical support on the ground for people with multiple sclerosis, regardless of the stage and type they suffer. I have seen firsthand the difference that this support can suppose, "Rowling said in a statement.

The director of the center, Siddharthan Chandran, said that the work method of his team is very personalized, since it is based on "listening and involving people living with these difficult conditions" to be able to include them in conducting studies and rehearsals clinical.

"This incredibly visionary and generous donation will increase the potential of personalized medicine for people with multiple sclerosis in Scotland and elsewhere," he said.

The writer was inspired by many places in Edinburgh to write the story of the wizard boy Harry Potter and what began as a story written in the cafes of the Scottish city has become over the years a multinational company based on its seven novels

According to the list prepared by The Sunday Times, Rowling has an estimated fortune of 750 million pounds (more than 830 million euros) with which he collaborates in several charitable causes.
