Javier Gómez Noya, eleventh in the Ironman of Hawaii | sports

Javier Gómez Noya was premiered this Saturday at the Ironman World Championship held in Kona, Hawaii. It is considered the hardest test by the level of the rivals -they are all the best- and by the climatic conditions: heat, humidity, rough landscapes and windy bike. The 35-year-old Spaniard, who parked the triathlon for the Ironman at the beginning of the year, came in eleventh. He suffered a lot in the last ten kilometers of the marathon and stayed out of the top ten.

Nobody has ever won in Kona in his debut. The victory went to Patrick Lange, who also won last year. The German, who destroyed the race by imposing a brutal pace in the marathon, finished the race in 7 hours, 52 minutes and 39 seconds. No one in Kona had dropped by 8 hours. He did Lange who beat his own record (8h 1m 40s last year) and above had the strength to ask his girlfriend. "He had promised that if he broke the world record he would do one thing," he told the organization's microphones as soon as he crossed the finish line. He went to find his girlfriend and knelt. Second was Bart Aernouts at 4 minutes and 2 seconds; third David McNamee at 8 minutes and 30 seconds.

Gómez Noya came out the fifth of the 3.8 kilometers of swimming, just seven seconds behind the leader. In the 180 kilometers of bike remained in the group of favorites (Lange and Currie) until the last ten. A technical problem made him lose 40 seconds compared to his rivals. The marathon started well, it even arrived (at 20 kilometers) to get a minute and a half away from the podium.

After 29 kilometers, however (the most delicate moment of the marathon, by the management of forces and energies) he crossed more than 13 minutes from the leader and ten from the podium. Finally, it finished in 8 hours, 11 minutes and 41 seconds, at 19m and 25 seconds of the winner. He broke the Spanish record in Kona, that of Eneko Llanos (8h 20m 50s in 2008). Ivan Raña, on the other hand, finished in 25th place more than 35 minutes behind Lange with a time of 8h 27m 52s. In the women's event, Daniela Ryf managed to win for the fourth time.
