Japan withdraws South Korea from its preferred trading partner list

The Government of Japan decided today to withdraw South Korea from its list of preferential business partners on suspicion of not applying sufficient security measures in the technology sector, which is another step in the dispute between the two countries.

The measure was approved today by the Executive Government Cabinet led by Shinzo Abe, and extends the limitations that Tokyo applies since early July to the basic chemical materials acquired by South Korean companies to manufacture screens and memory chips.

Tokyo maintains that these restrictions are due to Seoul not being able to guarantee that such materials end up being used for material purposes by third countries, while South Korea considers them a reprisal from Japan with a dispute that has its origins in Japanese colonization. from the neighboring country between 1910 and 1945.
