Italy proclaims March 25 national day of Dante Alighieri | Culture

And it will be held from now on throughout Italy, on March 25 of each year, as approved by the country's Council of Ministers on Friday, at the proposal of the Minister of Cultural Property and Activities, Dario Franceschini. “The date that experts recognize as the beginning of the journey through the hereafter in the Divine Comedy it will be a day to remember in Italy, and in the world, the genius of Dante, with many initiatives that will have a strong involvement of schools, students and cultural institutions, ”said the minister, as stated in the Italian newspaper The Repubblica
Franceschini's idea had already added the support of intellectuals, scholars and organizations as the main associations dedicated to Dante Alighieri in Italy, as well as the Accademia de la Crusca, the closest thing to the SAR in the country. Now, it is a reality, just one year before seven centuries have elapsed since the writer's death, in September 1321.
“There are already several projects for its seventh centenary that are being analyzed by the committee for the celebrations. Dante remembers many things That keep us together. Dante is the unity of the country, it is the Italian language, it is Italy's own idea, ”added the minister.
