The Cabildo of Gran Canaria and the Alfredo Kraus International Foundation they summon the VII International Singing Competition Alfredo Kraus 2019, which will take place in the Gran Canaria capital from September 23 to 28 with a jury chaired by the Italian soprano Mariella Devia.
True to the original conception of Alfredo Kraus, the goal of the contest is to support young lyric singers and allow them to enter the work circuit, as explained by the island president, Antonio Morales, along with the president of the Foundation, Rosa Kraus, who pointed out that these were the purposes of the tenor when creating the Contest in 1990 and organize it until 1999, the year of its disappearance.
This is the second edition of this new stage and the seventh since its creation, and acquires a very special meaning when it coincides with the year of the 20th anniversary of the death of the great tenor from Gran Canaria, which is being honored at theaters in Florence, Naples and the Teatro Real in Madrid, where he debuted in 1956 in the reopening after the fire he suffered.
On this particular occasion, the jury will be chaired by Mariella Devia, already almost legendary figure of the international lyric, which is not only identified with the Gran Canaria tenor for its conception of singing but for the choice of repertoire and career longevity.
