Isa Serra trial for the attempt to stop an eviction in 2014

The Superior Court of Justice of Madrid (TSJM) judges on Wednesday, February 12, the deputy of Podemos We in the Assembly of Madrid Isa Serra, accused of four crimes by the Prosecutor for his attempt to stop an eviction in the Madrid neighborhood of Lavapies on January 31, 2014.

The public prosecutor asks for 23 months in prison for Serra and 5,200 euros of compensation for two Municipal Police officers who were injured during the incidents that occurred.

The Prosecutor's Office accuses the regional deputy of public disorders, attack, injuries and damages when considering that she was leading the group of people who tried to stop the eviction, some of whose members faced the Police with insults and, according to the police report, threw objects blunt to the agents.

Isabel Serra considers that the Prosecutor's request is a "barbarity" and insists that she demonstrated peacefully against the eviction of a neighbor in the neighborhood. The TSJ of Madrid has dismissed numerous videos proposed by its defense, which requests its acquittal.

These videos, in the opinion of the Chamber, "lack interest" because in some cases they are out of focus, they are of very short duration or contain images outside the altercations.

In addition to Serra, the agents of the Municipal and National Police who were present during the eviction and were allegedly assaulted, the coroners who evaluated the injured police officers, and participants in the protest are summoned to testify.

At the request of the defense of Serra is cited, among others, the councilor of More Madrid in the City Council Jorge García Castaño.

Predictably the trial will be televised, since some television network has requested it from the TSJ and the court plans to give its approval, they have indicated to Efe legal sources.
