The numbers confirm that soon the circulation of this type of vehicles will be greater and many consumers wonder if it is worth it. In addition, the European Union and the Spanish administrations are favoring this type of vehicle.

The price these vehicles is still much higherthan the conventional ones. Although it depends on the model, they are usually between 5,000 and 13,000 euros more expensive. This difference in weight could be offset by what was saved in the recharge of the vehicle and other expenses. But is it really profitable to buy an electric car?

Electricity is much cheaper than gasoline or diesel, so recharging an electric car is cheaper. This is your main advantage. In addition, traveling 100 kilometers with an electric car costs approximately 13 kWh, about a quarter of what would be equivalent to moving a car with a combustion engine with a consumption of 5 liters per 100 kilometers.

If we take into account that the light can cost in the valley hours around 0.10 euros and gasoline is now around 1.30 euros per liter, consumption for 100 kilometers inan electric car would cost 1.30 euros, while in a gasoline the cost would rise to 6.5 euros.

In addition, we must bear in mind that therefree charging pointsin concessionaires or shopping centers. However, if we use an 'electrolinera', we will pay something else. Although it will depend on each establishment, the pricecould rise to 0.50 euros / KwH, which would increase the cost per 100 kilometers to 6.5 euros.

The recharging point is one of the most important things to take into account when purchasing an electric car. Although they are becoming more common in Spain, it is still likely that the consumer will need their own, as well as that it would be more economical. The problem occurs when you want to install a quick charge in community homes with common garages, because the price of the installation is higher.

In 2018, the European Commission approved a directive that will require equipping all car parks of community and individual buildings withfast recharge pointsfor electric cars. This measure will be implemented from 2021 and seeks to promote the use of clean energy and increase the profitability of having an electric car. The European directive also stresses that there should be at least 20 points per 10,000 inhabitants.

On the side of the drawbacks we must underline stillthe lack of recharging points and the lack of autonomy. Most electric cars lack sufficient capacity to make a long trip and especially, not specifically programmed.

In addition, the recharge time is much higher than that of a car with a combustion engine. There are three ways of loading: slow, semi-fast and fast depending on the infrastructure with which we have or to which we plug the vehicle. Depending on the network and the capacity of the batteries of each vehicle, the full charge can last up to 12 hours, the semi-fast up to 3 hours and the fast charge around one hour.

Less expenses

On the other hand, the electric car offers another series of advantages, in addition to environmental ones. ANDhe maintenance of electric cars is simpler and cheaperthat of a conventional one, because they do not share the same pieces. The first does not have clutch or oil or filters, among other things. This means that pieces should not be changed as often as they are in conventional ones.

In addition, many administrations are approvingeconomic measures to encourage the purchaseto of these vehicles. In some cities, electric cars have certain advantages, such as free blue zone, and other fiscal, such as discounts on the Circulation Tax.

But they are not the only ones. In 2018, the VEA Vehicles Support Plan was approved, which represents an evolution of the plan that already existed previously. This plan will have 16.6 million euros that will go to aid for people who purchase electric and hybrid cars.
