People speak, of course, counting their day to day, but also glide their dreams and desires, mixed everything into an unreal reality of magical transcript that reinforce the voices of water nymphs, ghosts, mushrooms, dogs and roe deers. That is the framework of Canto jo i la muntanya balla, second novel of the young Barcelonan Irene Solà, with which she has obtained the fourth award Llibres Anagrama, which calls the same publisher, endowed with 6,000 euros.
The vitality, the naturalness and the will to live that already Els dics, praised debut in the genre of Solà (Malla, Osona, 1990), reappears in this work, set in a mountainous and border area, undefined between Camprodon and Prats de Molló. There, between wooded areas and legends, comes the death of Domènec, a peasant-poet, who leaves an increasingly disoriented Sió raising alone Mia and Hilari, in a scenario that seems immutable, not even before the shocking attitude of Dolceta, who tells, with laughter, the terrible old story of four hanged women accused of witchcraft …
The clash between ignorance and fanaticism, beauty, imagination and, above all, desire to explain and the desire to live are combined again in what seems to be the foundational nucleus of the literary career of Solà, who for now counts his books for prizes . In which it has ceased to be a curiosity of the recent Catalan narrative, Solà -as in the cases of Eva Baltasar or Josep Pedrals– It has its literary origins in poetry. Member of the one that is already baptized as the "poetic generation of the third millennium", she has a degree in Fine Arts and a master's degree in Literature, Cinema and Visual Culture from the University of Sussex she received in 2012 the Amadeu Oller prize for the poems Beast. Five years later he obtained Documenta for his first novel, Els dics.
Solà has been a writer-resident in the USA, where she seems to be, along with the youth and a style and a literary lexicon in the freshest Catalan, a constant in many of the winners of the Llibres Anagrama, which to date has recognized Albert Forns (Jambalaia, 2016), Tina Vallès (The memory of l'arbre, 2017) i Llucia Ramis (The possessions, 2018).
