The Iranian leaders called for increasing the country's domestic production and the unity of the different political factions in the new Persian year, which began today, to counter the sanctions imposed by the United States.
"If production is increased, subsistence problems can be solved, the country's independence from foreigners and enemies can be guaranteed, and unemployment eliminated," said Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
In a speech on the occasion of the "Noruz", the Iranian new year, Khamenei said that this measure will also help to alleviate the crisis created by the devaluation of the national currency, which has lost 60% of its value against the dollar in a year. .
For this reason, the leader chose "the year of the impulse of production" as the motto for the year 1398, which began today, March 21, according to the Iranian calendar.
"The main problem of the country continues to be the economy," said Khamenei, who indicated that part of these problems are related to "inefficient management."
Although he launched this criticism against the government of President Hasan Rohaní, he also stressed that the Iranian nation gave "a strong and powerful response" to the "conspiracies of the enemies".
For his part, Rohaní defended in a speech the efforts made by his Executive to counter US sanctions and alleviate the economic crisis.
Aware of the internal criticism, the Iranian president called for the unity of the different political factions to overcome this situation.
"What the enemy wants in the face of these problems is confronting us and sowing discord among us," Rohaní denounced.
The president insisted that the problems began with the arrival at the White House of Donald Trump, but he said that his solution depends on Iran.
Trump decided in May of last year to withdraw the US from the nuclear agreement of 2015 with Iran, also signed by Russia, China, France, the United Kingdom and Germany, which limits the Iranian atomic program in exchange for the lifting of international sanctions.
After his exit from the pact, he once again imposed sanctions against Iran in August and November, which affect numerous sectors, including banking and hydrocarbons, vital for the Iranian economy.
The rest of the signatory powers of the agreement deal with Iran to find ways to counteract the sanctions, although for now the effect of these measures has not yet been noticed and the Persian country suffers a serious economic crisis marked by inflation, unemployment and devaluation of your currency.
The Iranian New Year or "Noruz", included in the List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2009, has been held for more than 3,000 years in several countries of the region and also welcomes spring.
