The General Industrial Production Index (IPI) has risen 3.1% in September in relation to the same month of 2018, its second best data of the year after July, as reported on Wednesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE). With the interannual progress of September, industrial production has returned at positive rates after having fallen by 0.8% in August.
However, corrected for seasonal and calendar effects, industrial production has risen only 0.8% compared to September of 2018, rate six tenths lower than that registered in August. With this rebound, industrial production at corrected rates chains six consecutive months of year-on-year progress.
In monthly rate (September over August), industrial production has decreased 0.8% eliminating seasonal and calendar effects, compared to the 0.6% monthly advance experienced in August and the 0.3% decline a year earlier.
