Cannabis continues to be the most widespread illegal drug in Spain and its consumption has increased by 2% in the last two years. Smoking has also risen (34% of the population smokes daily), while that of the rest of the drugs has stabilized.
This is reflected in the XII Survey on Alcohol and other Drugs in Spain (EDADES) 2017-2018, presented by the Minister of Health, Consumption and Social Welfare, María Luisa Carcedo, and the delegate of the National Plan on Drugs, Azucena Martí.
The survey shows that the daily consumption of alcohol is the lowest since the historical series began in 1995: 7.4% of the population claims to drink every day.
The compulsive use of the Internet affects 2.9% of the population between 15 and 65 years old, almost one million people have made compulsive use, especially young people between 15 and 24 years old, without significant difference between men and women. Regarding online gaming, in 2017 3.5% of the population aged 15 to 64 years old has bet. The profile is a man from 25 to 34 years old, and the most practiced are sports betting.
