Illa predicts a successful vaccination against COVID after the record of immunizations among health workers in the flu campaign

Health trusts to perform a successful vaccination campaign against COVID to which a majority of the population takes refuge. The Minister of Health, Salvador Illa, explained this Monday that he has "every confidence that the campaign will have a positive result", and has defended, for that third of citizens who doubt whether to put it on, that the vaccine is safe and "saves lives." "We have a European guarantee, the regulation is one of the strictest in vaccination, when the European agency authorizes [la vacuna] it will mean that they are safe and effective, "he said in the presentation at a press conference of the advertising campaign with which the Government wants to make the population aware of the risks of contagion of COVID at Christmas.

The minister explained that the vaccination data from the flu campaign support his good omens. "Flu vaccination has increased by 40%, especially among health personnel," he reported. Precisely this, how health personnel are going to act in the face of the vaccine, is one of the questions about which there is some doubt given that it is a group reluctant to get vaccinated on occasions. This time, Illa explained, they are responding: "Health personnel have reached vaccination rates never seen before, the highest since there is a record. It exceeds 80%. We are going to give them all the information regarding vaccines and we are convinced that they will respond as they have in the flu. " The Government's objective, as President Pedro Sánchez has already said, is that half the population is vaccinated by the summer. Spain is committed to the purchase of more than 73 million doses of vaccines, although these cover half the people, 36.5 million, because each vaccine requires two doses.

The minister has also presented the advertising campaign with which the Government intends to raise awareness of the application of good practices in the face of Christmas family gatherings. The campaign, whose slogan is "taking care of ourselves, the best gift this Christmas" shows a family that cannot be fully reunited and that is complying with the measures recommended by the authorities to avoid contagion: use of masks indoors and with the family , social distance to the point that grandparents have dinner in another room, ventilation and hand washing.

Illa has appealed to "extreme preventive measures" to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. "Our behavior is for our own benefit, but also for the people we live with" and the rest of society. As agreed in the Interterritorial Council by the Government and the autonomous communities, between December 23 and January 6, the communities will be closed except for justified cases already included in the state of alarm, and to visit "relatives and relatives". The meetings on December 24, 25 and 31, and January 1, will expand the quota to 10 people. The curfew on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve is extended at 1:30, for the rest of the days it remains at most at 00.

The minister has described these measures as "very drastic: we agreed not to move except if my son studies in another community and comes home for Christmas." He has also avoided the controversy due to doubts regarding what a relative is: "Everyone knows: someone with whom we have an important affective relationship, but is not a relative. Illa has recalled in any case that "if things do not evolve in the way we expect, we will take measures", although he has not said what they would be or how it is going to control that the situation evolves in the expected way beyond the fact that they will be carried out " random checks ". But he added that more than thinking about other possible measures

In addition, the minister has stated that he hopes to make a decision this week regarding the request of some autonomous communities, such as Madrid and Catalonia, that the pharmacies as spaces in which to carry out tests to detect the coronavirus. Illa has explained that she has requested some reports that she hopes will reach her throughout the week to make her request.

The general director of Public Health, Pilar Aparicio, has also referred to the self-detection tests, who has affirmed that a negative in one of these tests is not valid by itself. "They are not a passport for anything. If they test positive, they need to be endorsed with a PCR. If a test is done at home, the confirmation must be made in a health center and never before a negative" should act as if it were in case of let there be doubts. Illa has insisted on the message: "They do not exempt us from taking preventive measures, and we must know how to interpret them well", in addition to remembering that "the pharmacist associations" are concerned with this matter.
