The PSE-EE general secretary, Idoia Mendia, has reported that she has been admitted to the Basurto hospital in Bilbao due to pneumonia and after having tested positive for Covid-19. “After a few days of fever and discomfort, I have gone to the Basurto hospital and they have decided to admit me due to pneumonia and a positive in Covid-19,” said the socialist leader on social networks.
Mendia is married to the Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Mobility and Sustainability of the Bilbao City Council, Alfonso Gil, who reported last Tuesday that he was “isolated” because of Covid-19.
“I join the long list of those affected by this virus, but I know that soon I will be on the list of recovered,” said the secretary general of the PSE-EE in his message. Mendia has indicated that it only remains for her to “have patience and trust in the good work of the professionals of Osakidetza (Basque Health Service)”.
His case, precisely, has been one of the reasons that this Thursday the Table of the Basque Parliament has decided that the appearance of the Lehendakari Iñigo Urkullu next week to explain the management of the coronavirus crisis be telematic and not face-to-face, as recommended by the legal and technical services of the Basque Parliament. In order to avoid any legal clash, the Table of the Permanent Deputation emphasizes in the call that the appointment will be “informal”, although it has time allocations and interventions to use.
