Iballa Ruano was proclaimed yesterday at the beach of Las Canteras world champion of paddle surfing, within the modality of waves. The Pozo Izquierdo, with his second place in the Gran Canaria event, defended his leadership in the World Cup ranking. For his part, the North American Sean Poynter, intractable in the appointment of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, did the same in the male section.
Both the rider of Pozo Izquierdo and the American, with a parallel trajectory, made use of the previous advantage obtained in the beach of Long Beach, in Manhattan, and got a title that is the first time in history that is celebrated not only in Spain , but throughout Europe.
Iballa Ruano closed with a runner-up in Las Canteras an exceptional year, in which in addition to revalidating the world title of windsurfing he achieved his dream of making a double with the paddle-surf planetarium.
"This year I had proposed to be double champion in a different sport modalities and I have achieved it", explained the surfer from Pozo Izquierdo.
Iballa Ruano did not need to reach the final in Las Canteras to obtain the world title, given that Nicole Pacelli, her main opponent, could not overcome the quarterfinals against Shakira Westdorp, one of the leading riders in the race.
