HuescaTOThe former captain of the Levant reflects on his new stage in Huesca
DEight-year-old espus as a granota, Pedro Lpez (Torrent, 1983) is already a legend of Levantinism. In First, Second and in Europe, the former Levante has been one of the main pieces in the club's golden decade. Last summer, he was leaving for Huesca in search of new challenges away from the Ciutat, but he used his free days to visit his two families: the blood one, based in Valencia, and the one he left in the changing rooms of the Sports City of Buol .
Question. What has been found in Huesca?
Reply. A family club I am very well there, the atmosphere reminds me of the Levant of eight years ago. A team that is beginning to professionalize and that has people excited to fight for promotion to Primera. We have made a good team, let's see if we are lucky. The Second is very long, I think that from the tenth to the leader there are only six points. It's all very close.
Q. Was it weird to play against Levante just two months after his departure?
R. Yes, the truth is that s. A few days ago I was in the locker room with 'Moro' (Morales), Roger, Too … And in that match just in front of them, I had to mark them … I hope that next year we can face it, it will be a good sign. Of course in First.
Q. The Levante has not started badly …
R. We suffer a lot with the Legans game. I could follow it on television and it was agnico. For the viewer it was very beautiful, but it suffered a lot. This year, LaLiga is more even than ever. Every game won has to be held because it costs a lot. The permanence will not be easy, but the Levante has a good block.
Q. Much of the fans, Aitor's match in Butarque reminded him of Keylor Navas against Sevilla in 2014, where you were. Do you think matches are comparable?
R. S. I also remember playing as a right inside in that game and having the feeling that they come to us everywhere. Keylor was made even more times that game, but Aitor the other day was incredible and was when he had to be. But Keylor in Seville was crazy. I don't know about the environment, that there were more people and the screams of 'uy' were heard more, but Keylor's was crazy. In the end, that a goalkeeper gives you these guarantees and that sense of security, that he will always be there, gives the team a lot of confidence. It is not the first time that Aitor saves the team, it is making it incredible. It has very good conditions and is a goalkeeper profile also very similar to Keylor.
Q. The team is changing a lot of system this year.
A. Do not doubt that Paco is the one who knows the team best. Paco is not a technician of locking himself in a fixed idea. Paco is aware that he has very dynamic players that can help him vary the scheme and have interesting variations for the team. If he puts them to the test, it is because he has tried them during the week and believes that it is the most suitable for each moment.
P. Seeing the Second table, there are teams that should be up and are not. There are not many candidates for promotion?
A. Yes, every year there are 13 or 14 teams that aim to climb. So it is very easy for more than one to stick the host.
Q. One sees that Second Division so competitive and thinks about the forcefulness with which I raised the Levant three seasons ago. What can be imitated from that team?
A. First, that at home we did not lose at home throughout the season. Only the last, with the championship resolved. The team did not fit goals, we raced a very supportive team, sacrificed. The team accepted that if we had to be locked up for 20 minutes because the opponent choked, we did. It didn't matter being a leader or being the Levant. We had that blood to defend the result even if the party was ugly. It was a success.
Q. How important is Campaa in that Levante game?
R. Campaa and many others. But it is true that here in Huesca more than one has asked me "Hey Pedro, this campaign is very good, isn't it?". Many people like it, they give value from outside, not only those who follow the Levant. He does everything, plays, plays, goes to the divided balls, steals, it is important to stand still … What is discussed? It is very good. And with those who are very good, people are very demanding. The best of Campaa is always expected and that is sometimes a bit unfair.
Q. Your first idea was to go abroad, what makes you opt for Huesca?
R. S, during the year I have many offers but in summer they do not bear fruit as we want. We keep looking and I get a couple of things in Israel and Cyprus, but they don't convince me. Neither the country, nor the salary, nor the conditions. In the end, I prefer to earn less, being in Spain near the family and in a club where the coach calls me, the president calls me, they present me with a project to climb … That's why I decide to go to Huesca.
Q. You could leave without finishing last season, in the January market. What retains you in Levante?
A. He did not want to break my contract. I have had a very bad time in Levante, especially in the Lucas Alcaraz stage. Thinking about it, if I don't go out then, I wasn't going out last season with a coach like Paco. Regardless of whether he didn't play much, he showed that he loves me a lot, he gave me courage in the locker room and that when he could put me in, I got into it. In the end it was seen that I could lend a hand to the team.
Q. Why did that match in Girona … How was it lived?
A. Not only the center of my attendance, the whole game … It's the game with the most feeling I've ever played in my life. The game went very fast. It was a game of knowing that we played our lives. I had not played for two months and a half and I thought that is not worth it; I had to give up. I couldn't fail my teammates, the technical body, my hobby. In my head, I only had to kill myself for those last 90 minutes. It has to go well. It was incredible.
Q. When it goes well, it's pretty, but what if it went wrong?
A. If it had gone wrong, I would have gone home with the feeling of having given my all, with my head held high. If it goes well, much better, but when you give everything, you train well, take care … If it goes wrong, what are we going to do? Well, it goes wrong. I did what I had to do. And it went well, which is the most important.
