Huawei's bet to relaunch its sales

Huawei continues in its particular maze struggling to put competitive products on the market. Even without the possibility of using the applications of Google on Android. The pace of growth of the company has not slowed by its excellent sales in China, because there the phones do not use the Android version of Google and the company is strong.

Huawei Aces are still stored in the manga to launch terminals in the rest of the world without giving up the Google system. It is the case of Honor 9X. The phone was introduced in summer in Asia, before Huawei was forced by US law to give up using Google technology. It was the last phone Huawei has launched with Google's Android. It is definitely equipped with Android 9.1 and you will receive updates from Google.

The Honor 9X was the last phone Huawei has presented with Google's Android, we do not know when this will be repeated

The design is well achieved. We found glass on both sides. Although the back surface is dotted with fingerprints shortly after use. And that a bigger problem than it seems, because it just has a fingerprint reader on the back. It has included a headphone jack and the surprisingly light finish. It weighs just over 200 grams.

This has merit because it is a large terminal. The IPS LCD screen measures 6.6 inches and has Full HD + resolution. But the important thing is that it looks really good. It does not use OLED technology, but nobody expects it on a phone that is worth less than 300 euros. Another of the strengths of this Huawei is its 4,000 mAh battery. An extraordinary capacity for a phone of this price. We have been able to use the Honor 9X more than one day intensively without having to charge it.

The terminal equips a camera system within what can be expected from a mid-range device (its official price is 269 euros). Its angular camera, the main one, equips the already famous Sony image sensor with 48 megapixels and a half inch size. It is a solvent product that many phones have been equipped for months. By the way, you can use full manual controls in the integrated camera app. A detail that is not normal to find in mid-range terminals and that is appreciated to find.

The resolution is reduced to 12 megapixels when activating the night mode or wanting to improve the photos captured in low light or in those that seek to improve the dynamic range. In any case in good light conditions the 48 megapixel photos are perfectly valid. Its level of detail is interesting for certain uses, such as taking large paper enlargements or making selective cuts to improve the frame when editing the photo.

The result is not so convincing in low light reducing the resolution to 12 megapixels. The results are improved using the night mode, in which the terminal takes several photos to increase the image quality. But when using this mode you should hold the phone firmly. Well, unlike what happens with other manufacturers, this Honor 9X can produce fast-paced images if our pulse shakes more than the account.

In any case, the objective is bright, f / 1.8, and that facilitates the realization of night photos, although it does not have an image stabilizer. The other camera is a wide angle with an luminosity f / 2.4 and eight megapixels. It provides good photos with good light, but it is better not to use it if it is in short supply. The two megapixel camera, to calculate the depth, manages to simulate a selective blur of good quality combined with the main camera sensor. But nobody expect miracles. Although, yes, making several shots sure that we can achieve good photos so that the subject looks crisp and the background out of focus.

This Honor keeps the headphone jack and has a USB-C port that allows fast charging.

The front camera protrudes from the device at the top, to get us to see the screen completely free. This camera has 16 megapixels and a brightness of f / 2.2 and the truth is that it achieves better photos of what we are used to. Regarding the video, the phone is limited in its ability to record at Full HD resolution, without reaching 4K resolution. Although it is capable of recording at 60 fps and a digital motion stabilizer is used.

The processor, self-made, is the Kirin 710F eight-core. In practice it unfolds smoothly, but we have noticed some strange behavior when playing Internet videos with Full HD resolution. A problem that we hope is due to some software problem that is solved with an update. The RAM memory is four gigabytes and has 128 gigabytes of storage. Two good figures, especially considering that the phone is expandable using Micro SD cards.

In short, we are facing a phone that offers good quality components for the price at which it is sold. It even stands out in some aspects, such as the screen or the huge battery it equips. We have some doubt with the performance of its processor and we would have liked to see a camera with something more quality. Also a more correct sound in the built-in speaker when playing music or video. But we doubt that this Honor causes disappointment considering the balance of benefits it offers.
