How to understand the new electricity bill



On June 1, the new electricity bill in Spain, which affects about 10 million users, who are covered by the Voluntary Price for the Small Consumer (PVPC). The Ministry of Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge wants to promote energy saving, efficiency, self-consumption and deployment of the electric vehicle.

In this way there three new time slots. The first of all is the rush hour (from 10 to 14, and from 18 to 22); flat hour (8 a.m. to 10 a.m., from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., and from 10 p.m. to midnight); finally there is the valley hour, which will be in force all weekend and national holidays, as well as a schedule from 12 at night to 8 in the morning.

The rush hour will be the section where electricity will be paid the most; the flat hour is the intermediate level, while in the off-peak hour it is the cheapest rate. This means that running a washing machine on the weekend or 9am will be cheaper than doing it at rush hour.

The main changes in the electricity bill

The components of the electricity bill They are five: the cost of energy, regulated costs (distribution, transport, renewables, etc.), margin for the marketer for the services provided, rental of measurement equipment and taxes.

The main changes that affect the electricity bill model come in separation of charges and tolls. The tolls are the regulated prices of the costs of the transmission and distribution networks. They are determined by the CNMC, as established by European regulations.

The charges it is everything that includes the rest of the components of the bill, such as renewables or the extra costs of energy production in non-peninsular territories, which are set by the Ministry of Ecological Transition. In both cases, the price will be made up of a fixed part and a variable part, which will depend on consumption.

In this way, all consumers have a toll with hourly discrimination in terms of power and energy. This means that the price will be different depending on the time slot.

In addition, all rates under 15 kW are unified, so there will be no contracts for 2.0 A, 2.0 DHA, 2.0 AHS, and 2.1 power rates between 1º0 and 15 kW. The 2.0 TD is applied to all of them with the time slots and the possibility of hiring two powers.

The consumer will not have to do anything, since the toll is assigned automatically. On the other hand, if you want, you can adapt the contracted power and its consumption pattern.

What to do to reduce the electricity bill

The CNMC gives some keys to reduce the price of the electricity bill. First is to adapt the contracted power to the real needs. This can be modified every 12 months. Another one is to avoid simultaneous consumption, to reduce power. Finally, it is to shift consumption to periods outside peak hours.
