House Russia, traditionally the center of operations of Russian businessmen and politicians during the celebration of the World Economic Forum, will not be present next January in the Swiss alpine resort of Davos before the "veto" imposed by the organization on three sanctioned Russian oligarchs .
The Roscongress Foundation announced today in a statement that "it has stopped preparing the program of business events in the House Russia due to the imposition of restrictions on the participation of Russian businessmen in the World Economic Forum", whose next edition will be held from 22 to January 25.
On November 7, the British newspaper "Financial Times" reported that the Davos Forum had "vetoed" the attendance of Russian aluminum magnate Oleg Deripaska, industrial billionaire Víktor Vekselberg and VTB bank president Andréi Kostin to the next annual event for US sanctions on these three oligarchs.
Consulted by Efe in Geneva, the World Economic Forum did not want to comment on the information, which caused that the Prime Minister of Russia, Dmitri Medvedev, announced on November 13 that the members of the Russian Government and of the companies with state participation will not participate anymore. in the forum.
The House Russia was known not only because it served for meetings between politicians and businessmen and to close deals, but also because it invited, as last year, tastings of wines and other alcoholic beverages, had a bar open for long hours and a space to celebrate parties.
According to Roscongress, which is organized every year by the Russia House, the decision of the organization of the World Economic Forum is an "absurd and destructive excuse to undermine the foundations of business cooperation, which took decades to forge".
"These disputes do not serve to create a platform for effective and fruitful dialogue between representatives of different countries in Davos," the Foundation repressed the organization.
Roscongress bases its decision to cancel the Casa Russia project in Davos in its conversations with "many members of the Russian and international business communities", who would have expressed their "concern" about the decision of the Forum and for that reason had decided not to go "to the 2019 edition.
