Hotels, restaurants, entertainment venues and gyms already require the Covid certificate in the Canary Islands

The Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (BOC) published on the afternoon of December 24 an order specifying what establishments and activities must require the mandatory Covid certificate, as well as those who can take advantage of the voluntary request that carries as consideration the possibility of availing themselves of the closing hours and capacity established for the lower level.

Specifically, the establishments, facilities or activities on the islands that are at health alert levels 3 and 4 that will be affected by the application of the mandatory Covid certificate are those of hospitality and catering open to the public, whose resolution of granting opening license has a capacity of more than 30 people. In this sense, canteens (not cafeterias) of formal education centers are exempted from this measure, with respect to students and teachers.

Likewise, establishments and nightlife activities will have to request it in a compulsory way, whose resolution granting an opening license has a capacity of more than 30 people, as well as in others in which, regardless of their capacity, consumption is allowed. of food; as well as spaces dedicated to recreational and chance activities, in addition to events and celebrations with a concentration of people and music festivals attended by more than 500 people, as well as in which, regardless of their capacity, consumption is allowed of food or drink.

In addition, it will be mandatory in sporting events with more than 500 people, as well as in others in which, regardless of their capacity, the consumption of food or drink is allowed; and in public shows with more than 500 people, as well as in others in which, regardless of their capacity, the consumption of food or drink is allowed.

It will also be requested in cultural activities in cinemas, theaters, auditoriums and the like, in which the resolution granting the opening license has a capacity of more than 50 people, as well as in others in which, regardless of their capacity, it is allowed the consumption of food or drink.

Likewise, in gyms and similar equipment, in establishments and health centers for visits to admitted patients, as well as to accompany users to consultation, diagnostic tests, cures or treatment except in the cases of minors, disabled, dependents or people whose Health circumstances or of any other type require them, at the discretion of the health personnel of the center or establishment.

In addition to residential or day-care facilities for visits and people outside the institution, while the remaining establishments, facilities or activities on the islands that are at health alert levels 3 and 4 may continue to apply the requirement of the certificate Covid on a voluntary basis and benefit from the hours, capacity and number of people per group of the lower level, since it is understood that they are places with lower risk of transmission, such as is the case of shops, hairdressers and transport where users remain making use of the mask.

Voluntary covid certificate in islands in alert levels 1 and 2

On the other hand, the Ministry of Health recalls that the Order of the Minister of Health of November 29, also ratified by the TSJC, which establishes the use of the Covid certificate on a voluntary basis, remains in force for islands that are in levels 1 and 2 in establishments and activities subject to capacity and hour limits.

The entry into force of the mandatory certificate means that the establishments and activities of the islands in levels 3 and 4 included in the Departmental Order of December 22, ratified by the TSJC, cannot benefit from applying measures of the lower level as was happening when the The use of the Covid certificate was maintained as a volunteer, so in these establishments the capacity set in Decree Law 11/2021 for the corresponding alert level will be applied, closing at 01.00 hours and maximum groups of six people, except cohabitants.
